Agile Project Manager/Scrum Master

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Agile Project Manager leads the delivery of multiple projects for Sedex, working at every stage of the project lifecycle from inception through to post-implementation. The successful candidate will be methodical, practical, results-focused, detail-oriented, technically-minded, creative and adaptable, with exceptional communications skills.  As an experienced Agile Project Manager you will be required to support, facilitate and manage both our suppliers and internal teams. You will have a thorough understanding and experience of Agile project management practices, as-well as an understanding of the more traditional “waterfall” methodology backed by a solid background in technology. You will be good at managing competing demands, and have excellent team working skills. Projects will be planned, tracked and managed in line with Sedex’s standards and procedures.

Key activities within the role include:

  1. Ensuring that technical teams are consistently delivering high-value output to the business, aligned with the business goals.
  2. Tracking progress against targets and reporting clearly and effectively to all stakeholders.
  3. Troubleshooting issues and resolving dependencies throughout the teams.
  4. To act as the champion and advocate for Agile Project Management best practice within Sedex.
  5. Supporting the Product Owner in managing customer expectations for project deliverables, managing stakeholder communications, and helping to implement an effective system of project governance.
  6. Continuously improving all aspects of team performance, both on a personal and group level.
  7. Proactively communicating with senior stakeholders (including delivery partners, members and auditors) in a regular and timely manner.
  8. Promote empowerment of the team, ensure that each team member is fully engaged in the project and making a meaningful contribution, and encourage a sustainable pace with high-levels of quality for the team.
  9. To provide end-to-end project management (across multiple projects), from business case development through to implementation, of new products and services. ensuring that they meet stated expectations in terms of timelines, scope, budget and quality.
  10. When required create and maintain appropriately detailed project plans, RAID logs and other project documents to support effective project tracking and management. Identifying risks, issues and blockers and put in place appropriate action plans to mitigate or address them to prevent impact on delivery, escalating where necessary.
  11. To coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure that IT system changes are correctly implemented, documented and tested (including UT, SIT, UAT and RT), to ensure quality throughout delivery.

Successful delivery of projects, in line with agreed timelines, scope, budget and quality.  Delivery of positive business change, and high-quality products and services to internal and external stakeholders.  Clear and accurate reporting on project status at all times.  High level of confidence within stakeholder groups of the Agile Project Manager’s ability to deliver.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  1. 4+ years’ experience in an Agile PM (or Scrum Master, or equivalent) role on projects delivering significant business change through both supplier (onshore and offshore) and internal teams.
  2. Solid understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both Agile and “Waterfall” project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment.
  3. Experience overseeing multi-function project teams with at least 10-12 team members including Developers, Business Analysts, and QA Team.
  4. Take ownership, drive for results, can-do attitude, hands-on where needed, leading from the front with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  5. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information in an accessible way to both internal and external stakeholders. Understanding and managing the issues facing both team members and senior management.
  6. A broad experience of technology, particularly web-based software systems.
  7. Have exceptional organisational skills – the ability to multi-task, effectively prioritise when under pressure, and manage time.
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  9. Experience of and the ability to work with a diverse group of global stakeholders and bring individuals together, to ensure collaboration throughout the entire project life cycle.
  10. Ability to show initiative, work independently, in addition to being able to work as a member of the team.
  11. Comprehensive knowledge of MSOffice suite and Microsoft Project or an equivalent tool is essential.  Experience with JIRA and Confluence would be advantageous.
  12. Exposure to financial forecasts and budgets would be desirable.

 

RESPONSIBILITY & DECISION MAKING

  1. Responsible for delivering assigned projects to timelines, scope, budget and quality.
  2. Responsible for maintaining a positive working relationship with all stakeholders, delivery teams, vendors and partners.
  3. Regularly makes decisions within defined project tolerances as per project scope, budget and timelines.  Anything outside of these is normally referred to the Head of Programmes or the CIO before action.
  4. Responsible for actively promoting and driving the Agile practice within Sedex.
